NEW YORK -- St. John's coach Steve Lavin will return to New York on Sunday, and resume his coaching duties the following day, the school announced Thursday.
Lavin has been in San Francisco with his family following the death of his father, Albert "Cap" Lavin, last weekend.
Assistant coach Rico Hines has been in charge in Lavin's place, coaching the Red Storm in their 77-58 loss at Syracuse last Sunday. He also will coach the team Thursday night when they play at No. 12 Louisville.
Lavin will be back on the bench for the team's next game, versus South Florida, next Wednesday at Carnesecca Arena.
