NEW YORK -- Mets shortstop Jose Reyes had an MRI on his ailing right oblique Friday, but the switch-hitter remained in the lineup for the series opener against the Atlanta Braves.
The MRI came back clean, according to a team spokesman.
Reyes is unable to hit left-handed. Manager Jerry Manuel indicated Reyes wanted to play because of the importance of the series against the first-place Braves. Reyes will move to second in the order.
The Mets also promoted first baseman Nick Evans for the weekend series to have a right-handed pinch hitter available with Fernando Tatis on the DL.
Struggling reliever Ryota Igarashi was demoted to Class A St. Lucie.
