OAKLAND, Calif. -- All it took to change the mood around the New York Yankees was a five-game winning streak that featured plenty of production from their big bats and a strong run through the rotation.
Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight scoreless innings and Andruw Jones hit a solo homer that gave the Yankees their longest win streak of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.Matthews: Tough tests loom for Yanks
The Yanks righted the ship by sweeping the lowly Athletics Sunday, but they'll have a better idea of where they are after facing the Angels and Tigers this week, writes Wallace Matthews. Story

Research Notes
With 2 stolen bases in 2 attempts today, Coco Crisp has now been been successful in each of his last 29 stolen base attempts dating back to last year.
That is the longest such streak by an A's player since the team moved to Oakland in 1968, passing Stan Javier who had a streak of 28 straight successful stolen base attempts in 1995. |
