Former major league managers Jim Riggleman and Bob Geren will interview for the New York Mets' bench coach job as soon as Wednesday, a source in the organization told ESPNNewYork.com.

Other interviews were being arranged Monday night, according to the source.

The Mets are looking for a bench coach, ideally with major league managerial experience, to succeed Ken Oberkfell on manager Terry Collins' staff.

A team source previously identified former major league managers John McLaren and Larry Bowa as candidates, but Bowa is now not likely to be in the mix, the source now added.

Riggleman, 58, was in his third season managing the Nationals this year when he resigned 75 games into the season. His familiarity with the National League, and particularly the division, could be a particular asset. Riggleman previously managed for nine years with the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners.

Geren, 50, managed the A's from 2007-11, when he was dismissed 63 games into this past season.

McLaren, 60, served on the Nationals staff this season as Riggleman's bench coach and briefly served as interim manager after Riggleman's departure. McLaren previously spent parts of two seasons managing the Mariners.
