OF Andres Torres strains calf
NEW YORK -- Andres Torres' first game as a New York Met will be his last for a while.
Torres -- who was acquired from the San Francisco Giants along with right-hander Ramon Ramirez in exchange for Angel Pagan during the winter meetings -- suffered his second left calf strain in 16 days, this time while pursuing Atlanta Braves rookie Tyler Pastornicky's shot to right-center in the seventh inning Thursday.

Torres was placed on the disabled list Friday and will travel to the Mets' spring-training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., to begin rehabbing the troublesome muscle.
"I feel terrible this thing happened," Torres said. "But, at the same time, I have to be positive and try to get better."
Torres, who scored the only run in the Mets' 1-0 Opening Day win against the Braves, originally strained the calf during a March 20 Grapefruit League game. He only returned to Grapefruit League action Monday and declared himself ready for the season.
When Torres' ability to be ready for Opening Day was uncertain in recent days, the Mets held center field prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis back in Port St. Lucie while his teammates departed for Triple-A Buffalo.
Nieuwenhuis was called up Friday to take over in center field.
Scott Hairston replaced Torres in center field after Thursday's injury.
Collins said shortstop Ruben Tejada will take over Torres' leadoff spot. Tejada hit .222 in seven games in the No. 1 hole last season.
"I'm ready for everything," said Tejada, who has replaced departed Jose Reyes at shortstop.
"Leadoff, eighth, it's the same."
