The New York Yankees announced they have acquired Darnell McDonald off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

The 33-year-old, who plays all three outfield positions, will join the team on Friday in time to face his former teammates at Fenway Park.

McDonald batted .214 with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs in 38 games for the Red Sox. The Yankees will announce a roster move on Friday to accomodate McDonald on the major league roster.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated righty Chris Schwinden, claimed off waivers earlier in the week, for assignment.
