SEATTLE -- New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher hopes he can return to the lineup this weekend at home against the Boston Red Sox after missing the last five games with a strained left hip flexor.

Swisher hit in the batting cage under Safeco Field on Wednesday and was expected to work out at Yankee Stadium during the Yankees' off-day on Thursday.

If there are no setbacks, Swisher believes he could be ready to go on Friday when New York opens a weekend set against the Red Sox.

Swisher said he expects to take a full batting practice on Thursday and also run the bases to test out his hip.

His last game was last Friday when he left the game in the seventh inning.
