BALTIMORE -- New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira returned to the lineup Saturday after missing the previous 10 games due to a strained left calf.

Teixeira batted third, going 1-for-4 with a walk in a 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Teixeira said he could have played Friday, but the Yankees wanted to be cautious with the two-time All-Star. Steve Pearce started at first base in Friday's 8-5 victory, which gave the Yankees a one-game lead over the Orioles in the AL East standings.

Teixeira entered Saturday batting .255 with 23 home runs and a team-leading 81 RBIs in 119 games. He strained the calf on Aug. 27 while running out of the box on a foul ball.'s Andrew Marchand contributed to this report.
