Alex Rodriguez returns to Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. - After spending a little over four hours inside the Yankees training complex in Tampa, Alex Rodriguez gave the reporters a brief statement before leaving in a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by girlfriend and WWE diva Torrie Wilson.

"I feel great," Rodriguez said while sitting in the passenger seat of Wilson's SUV. "That's all I have to say."

Rodriguez also left without signing autographs for the 12 fans who had been waiting in the 90-degree heat.

Rodriguez is in Tampa again for a quadriceps strain after a rehab assignment earlier this month in his recovery from the surgically-repaired hip.

Before A-Rod's brief appearance, Curtis Granderson, who will begin his rehab assignment (finger) for the Single-A Tampa Yankees on Thursday, stopped and spoke with reporters for a little over four minutes. The Yankees outfielder said he had a short conversation with Rodriguez in the complex and asked A-Rod if he wanted to hit in the batting cages with Jayson Nix.

"He was like a little kid at recess and was excited about coming to bat with us but [Yankees officials] stopped him and said he had to do some other things," Granderson said.

Rodriguez did not say what his schedule would be the rest of the week.
