Garnett is getting a rest day. He played just 18 minutes in Thursday night's 103-89 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, but Nets coach Jason Kidd said after the game that the 37-year-old center "most likely" would not play against Detroit.
Andray Blatche will start in Garnett's place.
The Nets want to be careful with Garnett and conserve his energy in advance of the postseason.
Garnett last received a rest day Jan. 11 in Toronto. The 19-year veteran has played in 42 of the team's first 47 games, while averaging a career-low 21.7 minutes.
Since Jan. 2 (14 games), Garnett is averaging 7.6 points and 7.0 rebounds on 56.3 percent shooting.
The Nets (22-25) are 12-4 since the start of the new year.
