Knicks cable compromise finalized

NEW YORK -- About 2 million Time Warner Cable subscribers will now get to watch Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks and the first-place New York Rangers in a deal finalized on Monday.

The Madison Square Garden Co., the owner of the Knicks and Rangers, said Monday that it agreed to a multiyear deal under which the cable operator will carry its networks MSG, MSG+ and Fuse.

A dispute between MSG and Time Warner had left the cable subscribers unable to watch Knicks games since Jan. 1. That coincided with a media frenzy surrounding Lin, an untested Knicks point guard who led the team to seven straight wins.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and NBA commissioner David Stern had pressured the companies to resolve their disagreement.

The Rangers are currently the best team in the Eastern Conference.

MSG announced the tentative deal Friday.
