New Jersey Nets center Brook Lopez will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Friday night.

Lopez has played in just five games this season because of injury.

The 24-year-old center missed the first 32 games of the season -- and 33 of the first 34 -- after fracturing the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. And after briefly coming back, Lopez has been out since spraining his right ankle on March 4 against Charlotte.

Lopez was supposed to miss three weeks when he first hurt his ankle, but a CT scan later revealed a "line," so he was kept out another two weeks.

There are just nine games remaining in the regular season.

Lopez ended up averaging 19.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 2011-12. He never missed a game in his first three seasons.

He will be a restricted free agent this summer.
