Giants' Tom Coughlin OK with talk

INDIANAPOLIS -- New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has had no problem with a few of his players saying they are going to win the Super Bowl.

In fact, in Coughlin's eyes, it's no different than Tom Brady telling a crowd at a pep rally that he hopes to have a bigger crowd at a party after the Super Bowl.

"I don't," Coughlin said Friday at his final news conference before Super Bowl XLVI, when asked if he has a problem with the bravado coming from his players. "I know there have been one or two quotes out there. But to be honest with you, I don't know that any one of them have been any different than Tom Brady's."

Brady told a crowd of approximately 25,000 fans at a Patriots pep rally before the team flew to Indianapolis last Sunday that, "We're going to give it our best and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend."

The Giants said they did not take the comment at the pep rally as a slight, although Coughlin is aware of it.

The next day, safety Antrel Rolle started the Giants' Super Bowl week off by saying the team got on its charter flight with the mentality that it was expecting to win.

"We are going to win this thing," Rolle said Tuesday during Super Bowl media day, when he was asked again about the Giants' mentality. "We are going to win this thing for a lot of good reasons."

Defensive end Chris Canty then sent a message to fans on a television camera later in the week saying, "Get ready for a parade on Tuesday."

And Jason Pierre-Paul has been saying most of the week that Brady is not a god, and the defensive end believed the Giants were in Brady's head feeling a pass rush even when it wasn't there during the Giants' 24-20 win in New England in November.

The Giants certainly have been confident for weeks. But are they overconfident heading into the big game?

"I think it is just a matter of our team has played good football against great football teams," Coughlin said. "We always pull for our team. Humble enough to prepare, confident enough to perform. That is the way we look at it."
