NEW YORK -- New York Giants owner John Mara said he expects to get a contract extension done with head coach Tom Coughlin in the near future.
"We're working on it," Mara said at the team's ring ceremony at Tiffany & Co. on Wednesday night. "It will be done sooner rather than later."
Coughlin, 65, is entering the final year of his contract but certainly will be rewarded for winning his second Super Bowl in four years. He has suggested he could coach past the age of 70.
Mara said he does not foresee any complications in contract negotiations.
"I don't think so," the owner replied when asked if there could be any potential hang-ups.
Mara and co-owner Steve Tisch both praised Coughlin for leading the Giants to their second ring ceremony in four years.
"When we were in the middle of the season and things weren't looking very good, this team really pulled together," Tisch said. "Coach Coughlin really knew what to say to those guys, when to say it and how to say it and that is why we are here tonight."
