Tim Tebow accepts invite

Tim Tebow has committed to attending Mark Sanchez's "Jets West" passing camp in the next few weeks.

Sanchez, the New York Jets' starting quarterback, extended an invitation to every skill-position player on the team, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini, and Tebow has agreed to attend as earlier reported by The New York Daily News.

Last year, four quarterbacks, including Sanchez, attended "Jets West."

Top wide receiver Santonio Holmes still hasn't responded to the invite, the source said. Holmes didn't attend "Jets West" last year, held during the lockout, because he was an unrestricted free agent. He attended in 2010, however.

Sanchez has hosted his passing camp in Southern California at Mission Viejo High School the past two offseasons, hoping to build chemistry with his receivers and running backs during the period between the mandatory minicamp and training camp.

The Jets' minicamp at Florham Park, N.J., is scheduled for June 12-14 and training camp at Cortland, N.Y., begins July 26.

The Jets maintain that Tebow was acquired from the Denver Broncos this offseason to back up Sanchez and run the team's Wildcat package. And during the team's OTA sessions open to the media, Sanchez has received the majority of passing attempts. But that still hasn't stopped media speculation that Tebow will eventually supplant Sanchez as the starter.

The Jets have more OTAs scheduled this week.

The Daily News reported that besides Tebow, other Jets who have committed to attending are: third-string quarterback Greg McElroy; receivers Jeremy Kerley, Patrick Turner and Scotty McKnight; running backs Shonn Greene, Joe McKnight and John Conner; and tight ends Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland and Josh Baker.

"It's just so important to spend time together as much as possible," McElroy told the newspaper. "It's a good opportunity for us to get out of our element and do something social as a group with the benefit of working and great weather. It's really a good time for us. It's a lot of football and a lot of fun."

The newspaper reported that receiver Stephen Hill, the Jets' second-round pick in the 2012 draft, and running back Bilal Powell haven't yet committed to Sanchez's camp due to potential conflicts with their schedules. Rookie running back Terrance Ganaway told the Daily News that he won't attend in order to spend time with his wife.

Sanchez told the newspaper that unlike past "Jets West" camps, there won't be a day open to the media and the entire five-day training session will be private.
