FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas was charged with aggravated assault against his wife and several drug-related charges after he was arrested on Oct. 31 in their Randolph, N.J., home, according to a report in the Daily Record on Tuesday.

The charges came to light after owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan held the team's season-ending news conference in Florham Park.

According to the Daily Record report, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound free agent allegedly pushed his wife with a kitchen chair and punched her in the stomach. A criminal complaint details marks on her body stemming from the attack.

Thomas, 33, also was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, which was the kitchen chair, possession of drug paraphernalia, a small amount of marijuana and 20 tablets of suspected hydrocodone pills.

Lt. Chris Giuliani of the Randolph Township Police Department said he could neither comment on the charges nor release the police report because the charges stem from a domestic dispute.

The charges would have been read aloud in open court, however, as Thomas applied for a special probation program called pre-trial intervention. Thomas is next scheduled to appear on Feb. 5 in Morristown's Superior Court.

"We are aware of the report," a Jets spokesperson said in a statement. "This is a pending legal matter and we will reserve comment until the legal process has run its course."

NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello said the league was aware of the situation.

"We are monitoring the case," Aiello said in an email. "It will be reviewed under our league policies at the appropriate time."
