Source: Giants keep David Carr

The New York Giants have agreed to terms with David Carr to back up Eli Manning for the third straight season, a source confirmed Tuesday.

Carr will re-sign with the Giants on a one-year deal, according to a source. Carr has been Manning's backup for the past two seasons. This is his second stint with the Giants; he was the backup in 2008 and 2009. He spent one season in San Francisco before returning to New York.

The 6-foot-3 Carr, who will turn 34 in June, gives the Giants an experienced backup even though he has attempted three passes in the past two seasons. The Giants currently have Manning, Carr and Curtis Painter at quarterback.

Manning has started 135 consecutive regular-season games, dating to Nov. 21, 2004.

The Giants on Tuesday also confirmed the signing of speedy receiver Louis Murphy, who played last season with Carolina. The five-year veteran has 115 receptions for 1,707 yards and seven touchdowns, including 25 catches with the Panthers in 2012.
