Holmes, who underwent foot surgery in October after a severe Lisfranc injury, can be removed from the PUP list as soon as he's medically cleared to practice. But that might take some time.
The Jets' top playmaker indicated Saturday that he still isn't running at full speed on the field. He's running on a gravity-assisted treadmill without full weight on his foot.
Nevertheless, Holmes remains hopeful that he will be ready for the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"[We] definitely have to take our time, and I'll be ready to go when the bell rings," he said.
In addition, the Jets placed veteran cornerback Darrin Walls on the non-football injury list.
