Sean Avery not in Game 1 lineup

New York Rangers winger Sean Avery was not in the starting lineup to start the team's opening round playoff series against the Washington Capitals.

Avery, who did not dress in the Rangers' regular-season finale but had played in the previous six games for the team, was displaced by the return of diminutive skilled winger Mats Zuccarello from the minors. Former Boston University standout Matt Gilroy was also be in the lineup in place of defenseman Steve Eminger.

Even when he was playing down the stretch, Avery had seen his ice time diminish dramatically as the season went on, playing less than six minutes in two of his final six games. He had been a healthy scratch for five of six games prior to that.

Avery scored just three times in 76 regular-season games this season.
