New York Rangers forward Derek Dorsett suffered a broken left fibula during the team's 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night and will miss four to six weeks.

The Rangers announced the news later Friday via Twitter.

Dorsett suffered the injury while trying to block a slap shot by Pittsburgh's Olli Maatta in the first period.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
