F1 schedule tweaked

LONDON -- Qualifying for the European Formula One Grand Prix at Germany's Nuerburgring on June 22
has been moved forward to avoid a clash with soccer's World Cup quarter-finals.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that the one-hour session at the circuit would start
45 minutes earlier than originally scheduled and would finish at 11:15 a.m. GMT.

An FIA spokeswoman said the change was due to a quarter-final on the same day in Japan.

The French Grand Prix has already been moved from its regular late June slot to July 21 to avoid any clash with the
World Cup final on June 30.

Germany, homeland of Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher and brother Ralf, have qualified for the
finals while France are the defending world and European champions.
