the Primera Liga on Sunday:

ALBACETE 4 RACING SANTANDER 0

Albacete moved out of the relegation zone for the first time
this season thanks to this emphatic win.

Striker Carlos Aranda scored his fourth goal in three games
with a penalty just before halftime following an incident that
led to the dismissal of Racing midfielder Medhi Nafti.

Uruguayan forward Antonio Pacheco finished off a flowing
move early in the second half before midfielder Ludovic Delporte
made it 3-0 after Racing keeper Ricardo had spilled the ball.
Defender Juanma turned into his own net to complete the scoring
a minute from time.

ATLETICO MADRID 2 ESPANYOL 0

Atletico bounced back from their midweek defeat against city
rivals Real with a comfortable victory over basement side
Espanyol.

Fernando Torres put his side ahead when he redirected a
loose shot from strike partner Rodrigo into the net midway
through the first half.

The 19-year-old then scored his ninth goal of the season
when he slotted in from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time.

MURCIA 1 VILLARREAL 1

Murcia threw away the chance to claim their second win of
the season when they gifted their opponents a goal five minutes
into injury time.

Striker David Karanka headed Murcia in front after 13
minutes but Villarreal forward Xisco made the most of a
defensive misunderstanding to nip past three players and poke
home inside the near post.

Villarreal's Jose Mari was sent off for a second booking
just before the final whistle.

REAL MALLORCA 1 VALLADOLID 0

The islanders continued their revival under Luis Aragones
with a fifth straight win that catapulted them into the upper
reaches of the table.

Uruguayan striker Fernando Correa poached the only goal of
the game when he drilled home a rebound after Valladolid keeper
Albano Bizzarri had palmed a stinging shot from Brazilian
midfielder Nene into his path in the 15th minute.

SEVILLA 3 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

Sevilla recovered from a two-goal deficit to claim their
second win in a row.

Zaragoza went ahead when Sevilla defender David Castedo
turned a Luciano Galletti cross into his own net and David Villa
extended their lead with a penalty on the half hour mark.

Uruguayan midfielder Inti Podesta pulled one back four
minutes later when he headed in at the far post and Zaragoza
received a further setback when midfielder David Generelo was
sent off for a heavy challenge before the break.

Podesta, who was sent off just before the final whistle
after a second booking, scored with another header and
substitute Antonito grabbed the winner when he turned and shot
from the edge of the area on 71 minutes.

VALENCIA 2 ATHLETIC BILBAO 1

A dramatic last-minute penalty save from Valencia keeper
Santiago Canizares allowed Valencia to hold on to a win that
kept them in touch with Real at the top of the table.

Bilbao midfielder Santi Ezquerro cancelled out Vicente's
close-range volley early in the second half, but the Valencia
winger struck again on 66 minutes when he guided in from the
edge of the area.

In a nerve-riddled finale, Valencia's Francisco Rufete
missed a penalty after defender Mari Lacruz was dismissed for
tangling with Vicente and Bilbao's Ismael Urzaiz did the same at
the other end of the pitch following an incident which resulted
in the dismissal of Valencia centre back Roberto Ayala.

Played on Saturday:

BARCELONA 1 REAL MADRID 2

Goals from Brazilian duo Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo gave
Real their first league win in 20 years at the Nou Camp, but the
defending champions had to endure a nervous finish after Patrick
Kluivert headed in seven minutes from time.

Roberto Carlos fired in with a ferocious shot towards the
end of the first half and midway through the second Ronaldo
scored his 12th goal of the season.

Kluivert fired in his header from a Ricardo Quaresma corner,
but Real weathered the late Barca storm to hold on to their
historic win.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1 MALAGA 0

Defender Joan Capdevila gave Deportivo their first win in
four outings when he headed in the only goal of the game midway
through the second half.

Malaga striker Salva Ballesta came close to putting the
visitors ahead when he headed over the bar in the first half,
but Capdevila popped up in the crowded area to nod in a Albert
Luque free kick.

OSASUNA 3 CELTA VIGO 2

John Aloisi was the star of the show at El Sadar as the
Navarrans continued their remarkable start to the season.

The Australian striker scored the opener with a sharp header
on 29 minutes and although Celta levelled eight minutes later
when midfielder Jose Ignacio nodded in from close range, he
grabbed his second with an excellent low drive from the edge of
the area after the break.

Aloisi capped a great performance by setting up strike
partner Ibrahima Bakayoko for his side's third on 74 minutes
although Catanha pulled another one back for Celta in injury
time.

REAL SOCIEDAD 0 REAL BETIS 4

A rare home defeat left last season's runners-up Sociedad in
the drop zone.

Midfielder Capi opened the scoring after just five minutes
with a fine glancing header and Spain winger Joaquin added
another when he drilled under Sander Westerveld.

Betis struck again early in the second half when defender
Juanito bundled in after some poor Sociedad defending and
Joaquin completed the rout nine minutes later with another fine
solo effort, guiding in after he had chipped over Westerveld on
the edge of the area.
