Fairfield 71, Yale 57

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- DeWitt Maxwell scored a game-high 22
points, including a 3-pointer that sparked a 13-3 run near the end
of the game, to lead Fairfield to a 71-57 win at Yale Sunday.

Maxwell added nine rebounds, including four of Fairfield's 18
offensive rebounds. Rob Thompson added 19 points for Fairfield
(3-1), making 4-of-5 3-point attempts. He had been 0-4 in his
career on 3-point attempts.

Yale (4-3) jumped out to a 9-4 lead before Fairfield went on a
20-8 run. The Bulldogs got to within 26-24 with 3:44 left in the
half, but the Stags scored the final six points for a 32-24 lead at
the break.

Yale fought back from a 14 point deficit with 13:42 left in the
game, using a 12-2 run to cut Fairfield's lead to 47-43. But
Maxwell's 3-pointer sparked Fairfield's final run.

Terrance Todd added nine points and Deng Gai nine rebounds and
six blocked shots for Fairfield, which forced Yale into 18
turnovers.

Dominick Martin led Yale with 15 points and Matt Minoff added
10.

Yale, shooting 48.1 percent from the field entering the game,
was held to 38.5 percent by the Stags, the first time this season
the Bulldogs shot less than 40 percent from the field.
