With Wayne Ellington opting for free agency, the Nets currently have the following players under contract: Brook Lopez, Bojan Bogdanovic, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Chris McCullough and Sean Kilpatrick. They drafted Caris LeVert and Isaiah Whitehead and qualified Markel Brown, making him a restricted free agent. Rebuilding Brooklyn's needs are vast starting with a PG and a PF. Here was Sandy Alderson's sobering language with respect to the trade deadline: "What I've said before is that there is no single acquisition, at least that I can see, that's going to change what's transpired over the last two months. It's going to have to come from within. There may be things that we can do that can improve the team. We've done various things over the last couple of months to try to improve the team. Certainly we'll be monitoring the market. But I don't believe right now that an acquisition is going to make a big difference for us. We get Juan Lagares back, [Jose] Reyes makes a contribution, who knows where little marginal improvements -- hitting with men in scoring position across the board -- those are the kinds of things that are going to make a difference over the next three months."
