Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is out of the lineup after being hit with a fastball on his right elbow on Wednesday. Starlin Castro moves into Gardner's No. 2 slot in the order, while Aaron Hicks is in left and Dustin Ackley is in right. The ultra-struggling Chase Headley is on the bench against righty Kevin Gausman, as Ronald Torreyes is at third.

The Jets waived WR Joe Anderson, best known for holding a sign outside the Texans' facility asking for an NFL job.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated last night that he thought left fielder Brett Gardner may not be a player for the next couple of days. The first sign that is the case is that the Yankees have called up outfielder Ben Gamel. Gamel, 23, was hitting .286 with a .709 OPS for Triple-A Scranton. He is a left-handed batter.

It is going to be another raw night at Camden Yards. The AccuWeather forecast calls for periods of ran during the Yankees and Orioles game. The temperature will be in the low 50s. Bring a park and an overcoat, if you are in town.

The Jets haven't given away Ryan Fitzpatrick's No. 14 just yet. Rookie QB Christian Hackenberg, who wore 14 in college, was given No. 5. Darron Lee received No. 50. The Jets apparently don't believe in jinxes. It's the same number worn by former draft bust Vernon Gholston, who, like Lee, was a first-round linebacker out of Ohio State (2008).

Robinson would help Jets take off

Here come the draft-pick signings: The Jets have agreed to terms with seventh-round punter Lachland Edwards (Sam Houston State), his agent announced on Twitter. It's four years, $2.4M.

Charles Barkley responded to ex-Knick Charles Oakley, who questioned Barkley's toughness in a tweet on Wednesday night. "Charles Oakley doesn't like me, which is no big deal," Barkley said on TNT, per an accounting in the New York Post. "I don't like him or dislike him; I don't think about him. He's not important enough for me to think about. … He don't like me. I have no idea why."

Giants will feed Shepard the ball

Rueben Randle was the second most-targeted Giant last year, but he's no longer on the roster. Enter rookie Sterling Shepard, a second-rounder whom Mel Kiper Jr. expects will see plenty of action. Kiper: Impact rookies (Insider)

Where will Garrett go?

Myles Garrett has consistently lived up to expectations in College Station. Would the Aggie be a good fit as a New York Giant if he declared for the draft next winter? Way-too-early 2017 mock draft (Insider)

It's unclear at this point if the Knicks will have interest in Frank Vogel, whose contract has not been renewed by the Pacers. Worth noting here: Vogel worked as an advance scout for Jackson and the Lakers in 2006. Jackson has said he'd "probably" limit his coaching interviews to people he knows. Theoretically, Vogel fits this description.
