Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected from Thursday night's game for arguing during the fourth inning. Girardi got into it with third base ump Chris Guccione, ranting and waving his arms. It wasn't entirely clear why Girardi argued, though, there was press box speculation that he felt a balk call was missed. There is no score between the Orioles and Yankees in the fourth.

The Yankees are waiting for Dr. Chris Ahmad's opinion on Alex Rodriguez's hamstring MRI on before making any announcements about how long A-Rod will be out. It may be a little awkward if Rodriguez meets with Ahmad since he once sued the doctor for malpractice. The suit was filed when A-Rod was suing everybody, during the Biogenesis investigation. It was later dropped.

Terry Collins strongly implied that lefty reliever Josh Edgin will remain in the minors when his rehab assignment expires Sunday, while acknowledging it is the front office's decision. During a scoreless inning for Las Vegas on Wednesday, Edgin's fastball velocity was only 87-88 mph. Collins said Edgin will also need to pitch consecutive days before returning, which he has not done yet. Collins added that there's really not a vacancy in the Mets' bullpen at the moment. "Not right now," Collins said. "It could change tomorrow."

Travis d'Arnaud is hitting in Port St. Lucie, but has yet to throw since landing on the disabled list nine days ago with a right rotator cuff strain, Terry Collins said. Clearly d'Arnaud's absence will last beyond the minimum 15 days.

The 3-point shot has never been more important in the NBA. So what the Brooklyn Nets did last year to address their 3-point shooting was noteworthy. From opening night to Jan. 31, the Nets shot just 32.6% from beyond the arc (28th in the NBA). But from Feb. 1 to March 28 (the last game Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young played together), the club actually led the NBA in 3-point shooting (40.7%). What changed? One factor was Brooklyn's decision to hire shooting coach David Nurse. Nurse, who started with the club on Jan. 22, worked tirelessly with Brooklyn's young perimeter players and the results showed. In a lost season for the Nets, Nurse was a bright spot.

Benching Chase Headley? Yankees fans might think it is a good idea, but manager Joe Girardi does not. "It is way too early for that," Girardi said. Headly has not had an extra base hit all season and is hitting .153 in 72 at-bats. He is in the second season of a four-year, $52 million contract. Headley is not in the lineup on Thursday night here in Baltimore, however Girardi said he plans to put him back out there at Yankee Stadium on Friday against the Red Sox. Girardi described not playing Headly as a simple day off. Ronald Torreyes, hitting .375 in 24 at-bats, is at third.

We are admittedly reading into things a little bit, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi nor Alex Rodriguez again had an update on how long he would be out. Girardi said the team wants its doctor to review the MRI of A-Rod's hamstring. A Baltimore radiologist has given the Yankees an opinion. Maybe it means little and the Yankees are just being cautious, but if the MRI caused no reason to worry, would the Yankees need to wait another day?
