Giolito, Nats buck Mets trend

The Mets haven't scored more than three runs against a rookie pitcher making his MLB debut this year, but they still managed to win each game. That changed against Lucas Giolito and the Nationals on Tuesday.

The Mets issued this statement to ESPN's Darren Rovell on why Mike Piazza's NYPD helmet from the first game back after 9/11 (like the jersey) found its way outside the organization and to an auction house: "This item was sold in 2013. In April this year, we instituted a new process with internal controls to prevent something like this from happening again in the future."

Camping with Kristaps Porzingis

After taking New York and the NBA by storm as a rookie, Kristaps Porzingis is back home in Latvia, giving back to the community that helped transform him from a scrawny prospect to national hero.

Remember all the uproar over the auctioning of the jersey Mike Piazza wore in the first game back in New York after 9/11? Well, now the same auction house is selling the "NYPD" helmet Piazza wore from that game. The announcement does say that 50 percent of the buyer's premium will be donated to the charity Tuesday's Children. Piazza's jersey from that Sept. 21, 2001 game eventually was purchased by some Mets minority owners before auction for $365,000 in May and will be displayed at museums.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings are among the teams interested in Portland restricted free agent Allen Crabbe, sources say. The Blazers extended a $2.7 million qualifying offer to Crabbe, according to CSNNW. That allows Portland to match any offer to Crabbe. The guard figures to garner an offer much higher than $2.7 million from competing teams next month. He averaged 10.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 26 minutes a game last season, numbers that make the 24-year-old attractive on the open market, particularly with the increase in cap space this summer.

Hansel Robles took the ball directly off the calf. Terry Collins predicted Robles would be sore on Wednesday, but should be OK.

Terry Collins said Curtis Granderson has been dealing with a "small" calf strain. It's the same reason he sat Sunday. He had trouble loosening after rain delay.
