Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, explaining why he traded a 2017 fourth-round pick to take OT Brandon Shell in the fifth, said he was willing to part with the pick because he expects compensatory picks in '17. That softens the blow. He said they liked Shell so much they almost picked him in the fourth. "We thought the player has a lot of ability and potential," he said.

Bio Blast: Jerell Adams

Few expected the South Carolina tight end to slide all the way to Round 6, but the Giants snapped him up at No. 184 overall. Adams led all tight ends with a 4.64 40-yard dash at the combine.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo says fifth-round RB Paul Perkins is a complete back. "The two most important things for a running back: No. 1, protect the call. No. 2, protect the quarterback. And he certainly fits that role."

Jerry Reese says Jerell Adams is a "better blocker than a receiver" at this time.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan claimed they're not actively pursuing any veteran quarterback. He said their focus is Ryan Fitzpatrick. "I would say simply to dispel anything, we're not at this point in time in any discussions with any teams for any other quarterbacks," he said. "I can put that to bed at this point in time." Doesn't sounds like they're after Nick Foles.

Dan Graziano ESPN Staff Writer

With the 149th pick, the Giants select UCLA running back Paul Perkins, known as a quick-cutting runner who can catch the ball. Not a bell-cow type, but can fill a role as part of a RB committee, which you know the Giants like.
