Alex Rodriguez declined comment when asked to talk about being out of the lineup for the second straight day. Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated he had not spoken with A-Rod about the situation.

"If I don't play him, then everyone thinks he is done and I don't necessarily think that," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of 40-year-old Alex Rodriguez, who is not in the lineup for second straight game. "I still think that he can still be productive for us. I chose to give him a day off yesterday, he played basically six days in a row [counting two minor league rehab games] and [J.A.] Happ has been a tough matchup for him so I chose to give him today off."

Yankee reserve Dustin Ackley is done for the season with a torn labrum, manager Joe Girardi said. Ackley will have shoulder surgery this week. At the moment, the Yankees are sticking with Austin Romine and Chase Headley as the backup first basemen. Rob Refsnyder played a little first in college. Nick Swisher is struggling at Triple-A.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi would not guarantee that Alex Rodriguez will be in the lineup on Wednesday. A-Rod is on the bench Tuesday for the second straight game. Brett Gardner, whom A-Rod is conversing with, is also on the pine against Blue Jays lefty J.A. Happ on Tuesday. A-Rod is hitting .170 on the season.

Terry Collins says Noah Syndergaard "most likely" will pitch in the seventh, eighth or NINTH inning on Tuesday because he only threw 33 pitches Saturday before getting ejected. Syndergaard next starts Friday in Miami.

David Wright received an injection in his neck on Tuesday from team doctors. Terry Collins said the shot needs 48 hours to take effect, so it looks like Wright is active but unavailable for this series. Wright has a herniated disk in the neck. "I think it's serious," Collins said. Collins noted Bobby Parnell had the same issue and didn't respond well. The Mets decided to keep Wright active for another couple of days to see if the injection works rather than DL'ing him now.

Jeff Walters will be removed from the 40-man roster to create the spot for James Loney. Eric Campbell has been optioned to Las Vegas. The Mets apparently will keep David Wright active, which comes as a surprise given what people in the know were saying a few hours earlier.

Eric Campbell has been demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas. The Mets needed to open a roster spot for the activation of James Loney. It's unclear if there is still a separate move regarding David Wright, or those are the lone moves and Wright will remain active.

Alex Rodriguez is on the bench for a second consecutive game, which could be the start of a trend. Rodriguez is hitting .170 with six homers and 14 RBIs in 24 games this year. Since he returned from his hamstring injury last week, he has just one hit in 16 at-bats. It was a home run. He has struck out nine of his 16 times at-bats. Over his last 75 games, dating back to last year, A-Rod is batting .180 with 15 homers and 40 RBIs. Against Tuesday's Blue Jays starter J,A. Happ A-Rod is 0-for-15 in his career. Carlos Beltran is DHing, while Rob Refsnyder is in right and Aaron Hicks is in left. The struggling Brett Gardner is also on the bench.
