Terry Collins expects that newly acquired first baseman James Loney will be activated Tuesday, when the Mets face their next right-handed starting pitcher (Mat Latos). Loney was acquired from the Padres on Saturday for cash.

Wilmer Flores is active and in the lineup on Sunday night. Terry Collins said he has not yet told the demoted player about his fate, so the Mets are temporarily withholding that information.

David Wright is not available on Sunday and it sounds like Monday because of his neck issue. He remains active though. Wright took an oral anti-inflammatory medication for his neck issue. That medication needs 48 hours to take effect and Wright must be idle during that time, according to Terry Collins.

Noah Syndergaard may be used out of the bullpen for an inning on Tuesday. He will make his next start on turn Friday in Miami.

As far as discipline for Noah Syndergaard, Major League Baseball officials appear satisfied that because Syndergaard was ejected for throwing behind Chase Utley -- which already was deemed excessive by the Mets -- no other punishment is warranted. So Syndergaard appears in the clear.

Jets sure could use Ryan Fitzpatrick

In his 16 starts for the team last season, Fitzpatrick had nearly as many wins and four more touchdowns than the three QBs currently on New York's roster have in their combined 29 career starts.

Five reasons the Mets-Dodgers 'feud' is over

While fans packing Citi Field for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball undoubtedly will give Chase Utley an earful, it's extremely likely the episode is history.

Despite Michael Pineda's recent struggles -- he got bombed again on Saturday by the Rays and his 6.92 ERA is the worst among MLB starters -- Joe Girardi said the possibility of removing him from the rotation hasn't been discussed. "We still believe in Michael," Girardi said. "We've seen Michael have success." As of now, Girardi said, the Yankees will remain on rotation, meaning Pineda will start Thursday against the Tigers in Detroit in a makeup of a game rained out in April.

Utley remains a pain for Mets

Even after leaving the NL East, Chase Utley continues to be a thorn in the Mets' side. Utley's two homers on Saturday give him 38 for his career against New York, far and away his most by opponent.

The Dodgers' Chase Utley wasn't surprised the Mets sought retribution this far into the season series, and he's not ruling out the same thing in the series finale Sunday.

The Dodgers' Chase Utley said he understood if the Mets were throwing at him Saturday. He was more interested in talking about a 9-1 victory and how Kenta Maeda threw five scoreless innings after getting hit in the hand with a line drive.
