Alex Rodriguez said he is encouraged by a talk he had with the Yankees' sabermatricians, who told A-Rod his advance analytics are encouraging. When manager Joe Girardi was asked how A-Rod gets another chance when he isn't playing against lefties, righties and doesn't play defense, the manager said, "His time is going to come. He is going to get more chances." Maybe, but it doesn't sound like many. A-Rod is hitting .206 with nine homers and 29 RBIs. He turns 41 on Wednesday.

The second act of the benching of Alex Rodriguez has commenced -- and there is not much end in sight. A-Rod is not starting against lefty Dallas Keuchel tonight, because manager Joe Girardi plans on starting Carlos Beltran at DH the next three nights. The Yankees are next in Tampa, which has turf that Girardi may not want to play Beltran in the outfield much on. The Rays may have two lefties starting, which could be a plus for A-Rod. After that, the Yankees are at the Mets, where there is no DH.

The Mets are in favorable position in one regard as they head into the trade deadline. They play 15 of their next 20 games at Citi Field, with 10 home games against the Rockies, Padres and Diamondbacks. Those three teams are a combined 33 games under .500. "This is when good teams take off," said Mets manager Terry Collins. We need to take off."

In other Yankee news, Alex Rodriguez is not starting against lefty Dallas Keuchel. A-Rod doesn't start against most righties. He is not starting against a lefty today. He doesn't play defense. But GM Brian Cashman said the team has no thoughts of releasing him. Cashman did give A-Rod a gold star for his effort and attitude.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Luis Severino is a long reliever for the time being. That time may be short because when Adam Warren arrives, Severino could be gone.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman just spoke to the media. Here is the money quote on the Aroldis Chapman trade. "This isn't a white flag," Cashman said. "It is a rearrangement." Cashman would neither define the Yankees as sellers or buyers. He said he will present all trades he thinks makes sense to ownership and see if Hal Steinbrenner approves.

Aroldis Chapman is in the Yankees clubhouse at Houston's Minute Maid Park, giving handshakes and hugs to his ex-teammates. He arrived in a golf cart through the hallways with none another than Alex Rodriguez. When Chapman first entered the clubhouse, Andy Pettitte, who is from nearby Deer Park, told Chapman he regretted that Chapman had been traded and wished him luck.

Mets second baseman Neil Walker will sit for the second straight game as the Mets will go with Kelly Johnson at second base for their opener with the Cardinals on Monday night. Manager Terry Collins told Walker he would give him two days off when the team was in Miami. Walker is 4-for-45 in his last 13 games. "I just need to be more consistent in my approach," Walker said before batting practice on Monday.
