Mets' miseries mount in 7-2 loss to Rockies

The Mets, who fell for the fifth time in six games on their homestand, had to remove Yoenis Cespedes as a precaution and placed Jose Reyes on the DL.

Adam Rubin ESPN Staff Writer

Terry Collins said Yoenis Cespedes experienced tightness in his balky right quadriceps on Saturday and is probably playing with "more discomfort than he's letting on." Collins said the Mets will do everything possible to keep Cespedes off the DL, even if that means resting every few games. "We need his bat in the lineup," Collins said.

One of the strangest statistical oddities of the season: Jacoby Ellsbury has now reached base 10 times on catcher's interference, one-third of all CIs this season. No other player has more than two and Ellsbury has broken the previous record of eight, set by Roberto Kelly in 1992.

The Mets made no headway in their pursuit of Jonathan Lucroy today, and signs are pointing increasingly toward Cleveland as the destination for the veteran catcher. Lucroy has to sign off on a deal to the Indians because they're one of eight teams on his no-trade list. But Cleveland needs a catcher, and Lucroy would provide a major upgrade.
