I think when Derrick Rose said "thank you" to the Bulls for trading him, he meant it as gratitude to the organization for sending him to the Knicks, as opposed to another organization. I don't believe it was meant as a shot at the organization.

Derrick Rose feels as if he is "close" to returning to the level he played during 2010-11, when he won the NBA's MVP award: "But me sitting up here and saying that, that's not going to do anything. Next year, I'm going to let my game speak for itself," he said.

Here's why Derrick Rose changed his number from 1 to 25, the number he wore as a high school star in Chicago: "I'm playing in New York but I'm bringing something from Chicago with me out here. That's one of the reasons I chose No. 25." Rose wore No. 25 as a high school player at Chicago powerhouse Simeon Career Academy. The number was also worn at Simeon by Ben Wilson, the late Chicago prep star.

The Mets and other teams have been allowed to speak to Jose Reyes' agents since he landed on release waivers on Thursday. The only prohibition is on talking terms of a contract until he becomes a free agent at 1 p.m. ET Saturday. But the terms are pretty much moot since every team would pay him the prorated MLB minimum.

Joe Girardi said " the plan" is for Mark Teixeira to rejoin the Yankees for Saturday's game, although there is a caveat: "Our plan is to give him today (off) to make sure that he's OK and then get him back in there tomorrow. " Teixeira, on the DL since June 4 with a cartilage tear in his right knee, just finished a 3-game rehab assignment for AAA Scranton, where he went 1-for-9 with a walk. Teixeira is hitting just .180 with 3 HRs and 12 RBI. "I know he's off to a slow start but I really don't think that's going to continue," Girardi said. "We expect him to be Mark."

The Mets have internally talked about several positions for Jose Reyes. That includes the outfield. They've also discussed a utility role and being primarily being a third baseman or second baseman.

Terry Collins acknowledged he's already discussed with his staff how the Mets would use Jose Reyes assuming he lands with the Mets. Reyes will become a free agent on Saturday at 1 p.m.
