Source: Yanks sign Eric Chavez

The New York Yankees signed free-agent third baseman Eric Chavez to a minor league deal, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

Chavez, 33, has spent all 13 seasons of his big league career with the Oakland Athletics, batting .267 with 230 home runs and 787 RBIs. He's been plagued by injuries in recent years, limited to a total of 64 games played in 2008-2010.
