Ohioan wins swim around Manhattan

NEW YORK -- Erica Rose won the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on Saturday, finishing the 28.5-mile course around Manhattan in 7 hours, 29 minutes, 46 seconds.

The 28-year-old Rose, from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, is a former world champion and 10-time U.S. champion.

The race, the longest swimming event in the world, began and ended at South Cove in Battery Park City.

Australia's John van Wisse, a three-time Manhattan Island champion, was second in 7:33:50.
