Frank Francisco plans to be ready

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets closer Frank Francisco threw off a bullpen mound Tuesday morning to test his left knee, then declared himself ready for Opening Day.

Francisco's availability was part of a series of positive medical news for the Mets as they prepare to break camp.

Left-handed specialist Tim Byrdak and center fielder Andres Torres both are scheduled to return to Grapefruit League action Tuesday afternoon and also will be ready for Thursday's regular-season opener ...
