Derek Jeter has ankle surgery

The New York Yankees announced that shortstop Derek Jeter underwent surgery Saturday in Charlotte, N.C., to repair his fractured left ankle.

The team said Jeter's complete recovery is expected to take four to five months. Foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson performed the surgery.

Asked if he believed Jeter would be ready for 2013 Opening Day earlier this week, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman responded, "He'll be ready when he's ready."
