Phil Hughes won the fifth starter spot in spring training and went on to make the All-Star team. The game, played in Anaheim, was 10 minutes from his parents' house, which is where Hughes still lives in the offseason.

Hughes developed a change-up during the season and is now able to last into the sixth or seventh inning. In his first postseason start in ALDS Game 3, Hughes pitched a beauty, throwing seven shutout innings to propel the Yankees to the sweep.
