Eli Manning threw three INTs for only the second time this season. And the Redskins held him without a TD to for the second time this season. Hakeem Nicks dropped a sure TD early. Mario Manningham wasn't on the same page as Manning on an INT and left tackle David Diehl was called for holding to nullify a fourth-quarter TD to Nicks. Manning was sacked three times.
The Giants rushed for 91 yards, nearly reaching 100 for the third straight game. But when they needed to get something going in the first half, the Giants only ran the ball five times for 34 yards. Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 58 yards on 10 carries and scored a late touchdown. Brandon Jacobs only received eight carries and gained 33 yards.
The Redskins ran 40 times for 123 yards but rookie running back Roy Helu had his three-game streak of 100 yards rushing snapped by only managing 53 yards on 23 carries. The Giants held Washington to 3.1 yards per carry but Jason Pierre-Paul and Antrel Rolle missed tackles on fullback Darrel Young's six-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Rex Grossman only threw for 185 yards and one TD while also gift-wrapping two first-quarter interceptions. But the Redskins converted on third-and-12, third-and-17 and third-and-14 through the air in the first half. The Giants benched struggling rookie Prince Amukamara and Santana Moss scored on a 20-yard toTD on what appeared to be another breakdown in the secondary.
Lawrence Tynes made a 40-yard field goal but missed a 44-yard attempt. The coverage on Brandon Banks was outstanding as Banks only had a 20-yard kickoff return and minus-two on a punt return. Jerrel Jernigan came in and averaged 27.5 yards on two kickoff returns. Devin Thomas forced a fumble on a Banks punt return before injuring his neck while making a tackle on a kickoff return to end the first half.
The Giants displayed little intensity and life in a game that they should have won at home. Tom Coughlin's team continues to frustrate to no end and disappeared in a crucial divisional game at home for the second straight time dating back to the Eagles loss. Coughlin also lost his seventh-straight challenge and the defense continued to have lapses in the secondary.
