Also released were ILB Philip Wheeler, S Craig Dahl, OL Joe Looney and undrafted rookies Patrick Miller, a left tackle, and Issac Blakeney, a receiver.

NFL owners plan to discuss changing the commissioner's role in the player discipline process, according to the Washington Post. Asked Sean Payton if K Dustin Hopkins' 53-yard FG miss left Saints back to Square 1 in kicker battle instead of confirming their decision. "That's a good question ... It's a good distance, he had the leg for it, he just missed it wide," Payton said, explaining that they'll go back now and really look closely at everything in Hopkins vs. Zach Hocker. "(Hopkins) has been fairly consistent in camp. He's striking the ball well. And yet you're hoping - I was hoping, certainly we all were hoping there would be a wider margin with either of those players."
