Top 32 prospects for 2014 draft
Greg Robinson jumps into top 10; Sammy Watkins, Johnny Manziel also climb
The 2013 college football season is now in the books, and we've already had several high-profile underclassmen declare for the draft (we'll know the complete class by next week, after the early-entry deadline has passed). Quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel are among them, and all three make our latest Top 32.
There figures to be a lot of movement in these rankings as the draft process unfolds, but for now let's take a look at our latest ranking of the Top 32 prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft -- including a newcomer who has risen all the way up into the top 10.
(Note: The scouting reports will largely stay the same for each edition of these rankings, but we'll update as needed based on recent performances and news developments. Draft-eligible non-seniors are noted with an asterisk.)
Analysis: Even when taking into account questions about Clowney's production and effort this season, he is still the most talented player in the 2014 draft class, regardless of position. He has a rare blend of size, athleticism, strength and speed, and he can beat opponents just as easily with his speed rush as he can with his bull rush. He has been the No. 1 prospect in these rankings all season long.
Analysis: Matthews continues his climb in these rankings, moving up to No. 2. He has the pedigree, durability, versatility and high character you like to see in a top offensive tackle prospect, and he is effective in both run and pass-blocking. It would not be a surprise to see him land in the top two picks in the 2014 draft.
Analysis: Barr had an incredibly productive 2013 season and performed at such a high level that I think he closed the gap between him and Clowney in the minds of some teams, especially those that run a 3-4. Barr may be a notch below in pure ability, but he is a disruptive player with very good first-step quickness and elite closing burst as a pass-rusher and a run defender. He also possesses ideal size, length and versatility for his position, and from everything I've heard, he is exceptional in terms of football character and work ethic.
