Seahawks release Chris Clemons

The Seattle Seahawks have released veteran defensive end Chris Clemons, freeing up $7.5 million in salary-cap space for 2014.

NFL Network was first to report the release.

The move was expected for weeks. Clemons, 32, had 4½ sacks last season coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL. It was a significant drop in production from the previous three seasons, when he had at least 11 sacks each year after being traded to Seattle by the Eagles in 2010.
