Charles Sims out first half of season

TAMPA, Fla. -- Buccaneers rookie running back Charles Sims likely will miss at least the first half of the season because of an ankle injury.

The team announced Friday that Sims will have surgery on Saturday. According to the team, the recovery and rehabilitation period for such an injury usually is 12 to 14 weeks.

Sims, a third-round pick, was in the mix to be the top backup to Doug Martin. Sims, who caught more than 200 passes in his college career, was expected to be used heavily ...
