Tom Kowalski wins McCann award

Tom Kowalski has posthumously won the 2012 Dick McCann Award for his contributions to pro football though his coverage of the Detroit Lions for 32 years.

The Professional Football Writers of America gave the award to the former Lions beat writer who died in August at age 51. He covered the Lions in parts of five decades, beginning at the Oakland Press in 1978 before moving to the Booth Newspapers chain and its website, MLive.com.
