As for showing up in Indianapolis for the three-day job interview, that's a no-brainer. Players opt out of parts or all of combine workouts frequently, but if you have any thoughts of playing in the NFL, you accept this invitation.
I can remember some guys showing up late because of travel issues, but I never can remember a guy who plans on competing for a NFL roster spot turning down a chance to be here. The reality is that 80 percent of the media coverage is devoted to workouts, but 80 percent (or somewhere in that range) of the combine's value for NFL teams comes from what goes on behind closed doors -- interviews and medical and psychological testing.
