NFL's top TEs in 2012
Projecting how the top tight ends of 2012 perform in 2013
Last year at Pro Football Focus we graded some spectacular performances. So to give you a glimpse of what really stood out we're highlighting the top 10 players in every NFL position group during the 2012 season and how they project in 2013.
The tight end position, more than many others, sees a range of talents find homes and succeed as specialization takes over and players serve as plug-and-play options. This look at our top 10 tight ends of 2012 illustrates the dual nature of the position, with some recording high marks for their receiving performance, others notching big positives for their blocking and some even finding a balance between the two.
Here are the top 10 TEs from 2012.

Analysis: Despite being limited to 743 snaps during the season, Gronkowski posted such dominant grades that he landed atop the overall standings. Among the four best 2012 tight ends in both receiving and run-blocking grades, he added a yards per route run figure (2.40) that was far and away ahead of the next-best number and the third-best mark for a tight end since 2009.
Trending: There are certainly questions about his health, but once he's back on the field there's no tight end in the league who can match his dual-purpose production.
