Rumor Central: Rams Looking to Deal Soon

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said Thursday in an interview with ESPN Radio's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" that "multiple teams" have contacted the team about trading for the No. 2 overall pick.

"I won't give a number, Colin, but I will say this: We've been approached by multiple teams, and some of them are obvious and some of them are not so obvious, until you sit down and analyze their situation and understand where they're coming from," Snead said, when asked how many teams have inquired about acquiring the draft choice.

While the Colts are widely expected to take quarterback Andrew Luck as the eventual heir to Peyton Manning with the No. 1 overall draft pick, it is Robert Griffin III who has sparked the speculation about the No. 2 selection. This past season's Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor is seen as a good fit with a number of teams, increasing the likelihood of the Rams, who picked Sam Bradford first overall in 2010, dealing the pick in a bid to stock up.

League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter earlier this week that the Rams have decided to trade the pick and have had trade discussions with the Cleveland Browns (No. 4), Washington Redskins (No. 6) and Miami Dolphins (No. 8), each of whom is scheduled to pick in the top eight in April's draft.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Redskins are willing to surrender the sixth overall pick this year, next year's No. 1 pick and two other selections in order to acquire the Rams' pick.

Snead said the team's officials talk "daily" about a potential trade of the No. 2 pick.

"I think there's pro and cons on making the move early or later," he said.

Snead said "there's probably not a position in this draft, other than QB" where the Rams can't use help. He also said that if the Rams determine Bradford is the quarterback to build around, they need to acquire "explosive weapons" around him.

"If we decide Sam is a franchise quarterback, is it better to now get him weapons versus starting totally over and not getting weapons for the other guy?" Snead said, when talking about the decision the team must make between selecting at No. 2 or trading it to acquire more picks.

Among a group of perhaps 50 or 60 players that the Rams are believed to have interviewed at the combine are Southern California offensive tackle Matt Kalil and Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, a pair who would fill obvious holes.
