Research Notes

  • The Seahawks are the fifth team to win a postseason game by scoring 10 or fewer points under the current playoff format (since 1990). The last team to do it was the 1997 Steelers, who beat the Patriots 7-6 in the Divisional Playoffs.

  • Russell Wilson's 21.3 Total QBR Sunday was the 3rd-worst by any quarterback in a playoff win in the last 10 seasons. Each of the other 3 quarterbacks to win a playoff game in that span with a Total QBR below 22.0 went on to reach the Super Bowl that season (Russell Wilson in the 2014 NFC Championship Game, Rex Grossman in the 2006 NFC Championship Game and Tom Brady in the 2007 AFC Championship Game).

  • Russell Wilson has seven postseason wins in his career. According to Elias that's the most playoff wins all-time by a quarterback within four seasons of their NFL debut.

  • Russell Wilson (SEA): Sunday was the 4th time in his career he's led a game-winning drive in the 4th quarter or overtime of a playoff game. Since Wilson entered the league in 2012, no other play has led more than 2 such drives (Tom Brady & Colin Kaepernick have 2 each in that span).

  • Russell Wilson was pressured (sack or duress) on 12 of his 18 second-half dropbacks (67%), Wilson's highest pressure percentage in any half of his career. This came after Wilson was not pressured on ANY of his 12 dropbacks in the first half. When Wilson did have time to throw after halftime, he made the Vikings pay.One of Wilson's 2 completions under duress Sunday came early in the 4th quarter after the snap went over his head. Wilson recovered the fumble, eluded defenders and completed a 35-yard pass to Tyler Lockett. His touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin came 2 plays later.

  • For the second time this season, Adrian Peterson averaged less than 1 yard before contact on his rush attempts. Both of those games were against the Seahawks.Peterson was hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on 10 of his 23 rushes Sunday, gaining 11 yards on those rushes (gained 34 yards when not hit at or behind line).

  • Blair Walsh is the fourth Vikings kicker to miss a field goal in the last 20 postseasons.Morten Andersen had a 27-yard field goal blocked in the 2004 Wild Card Playoffs, Gary Anderson missed a 38-yard field goal wide left in the 1998 NFC Championship and Eddie Murray missed a 48-yard field goal in the 1997 Wild Card Playoffs.

  • Teddy Bridgewater averaged 3.8 air yards on his completions Sunday, 2.5 yards shorter than the league average. Bridgewater completed only 1 pass more than 5 yards downfield in the 2nd half, the 24-yard completion to Kyle Rudolph which setup Blair Walsh's missed field goal. Bridgewater's longest completion Sunday was 13 air yards to MyCole Pruitt at 5:11 of the 2nd quarter. Bridgewater was 1-of-4 passing 10+ yards downfield Sunday.

  • Blair Walsh is now 2-for-5 in his career when kicking with a chance to take the lead with under a minute remaining in regulation. The three misses in that situation are the most in the NFL since the start of 2012 (including playoffs).

  • Doug Baldwin (SEA): 4th career postseason Rec TD, tied with Jermaine Kearse, Steve Largent and Jerramy Stevens for the most in Seahawks history

  • The Seahawks didn't score in the first half of a playoff game for the sixth time in team history, tied with the Dolphins for the most games in the NFL since Seattle's first season in 1976.

  • The Seahawks and Vikings combined for 185 yards in the first half, the 2nd fewest in any 1st half of a playoff game in the last 15 seasons (2005 Wild Card - Redskins at Buccaneers, 175 total yards). It's just the second 1st half of a playoff game in the last 15 seasons where there were fewer than 200 combined yards.
