Rodak: Quarterback choice is classic Rex Ryan

Instead of playing it safe at quarterback, Bills coach Rex Ryan is rolling the dice with the unproven Tyrod Taylor as his starter. It's a move that aligns perfectly with Ryan's bold style.

Seifert: Rules changes and points of emphasis for 2015

Offsetting penalties for in-game fighting? Not anymore. Expect to see scuffles -- mild or otherwise -- result in ejections this season. That's not the only rules/procedural change in store.

Longtime Oilers-Titans scout C.O. Brocato passed away at 85. He was a gracious man who amassed an immense amount of Holiday Inn points during his travels. Watching part of practice with him was a real treat. Early in my career he taught me about which Titans were "just a guy."

Saints WR/KR Jalen Saunders was expendable after rookie return man Marcus Murphy emerged this summer. A bonus that the Saints were able to get something in return from the Patriots -- which I have to assume is a late-round pick. Saunders' 50-yard return on Sunday certainly helped.

What's next for Trent Richardson

Could this be the end of the running back's career? ESPN's Bill Williamson weighs in: “Trent Richardson’s NFL career is in major jeopardy.”

TY Hilton expected to be cleared

Colts WR TY Hilton will finish his concussion testing protocol on Thursday with the expectation that he will be cleared, a source tells ESPN's Britt McHenry. Hilton entered the protocol after complaining of a headache after Saturday's preseason game at St. Louis.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that Saints are trading WR/return specialist Jalen Saunders to the Patriots for a conditional draft pick, via a league source. Patriots got an extended look at Saunders in August's joint practices.

Berry: 'I'm a big Jeremy Maclin fan'

Maclin joins the Chiefs one year after QB Alex Smith threw zero TDs to Kansas City WRs. But on Mike & Mike, ESPN's Matthew Berry says don't worry about that: "They will force-feed him the ball."

Jeff Saturday: Redskins should cut RG III

The former Colt thinks QB Robert Griffin III needs a fresh start: "If you're RG III, and you're sitting on this football team, all it's going to be is a distraction."

Hard for Starr to remember the time

Bart Starr's memory is waning after surviving two strokes and a heart attack last September, making it difficult for him to recognize and retain moments from both the past and present. "You know, Bart may grasp it at times, but he’s just not fully conscious of his career or anything,” his wife Cherry said. Lombardi a distant memory

SalPal: Shocked if no Brady decision today

Sal Paolantonio says Tom Brady and the league are still deadlooked and can't find any common ground.

Did Alfred Morris' fantasy value dive?

Mobile quarterbacks allow running backs to be better, says fantasy guru Matthew Berry. So the Kirk Cousins over RG III move will be bad for the Redskins RB.

Tom Brady approves of new sketch

Her first attempt wasn't as accurate, so courtroom artist Jane Rosenberg was back at it today during the QB's court appearance, and she succeeded. She said she got a wave and a “thank you” from Brady.

Tony Romo has second bout with eye stye

The Cowboys QB practiced Monday with a healing stye in his left eye. The first one kept him out of practice for a day in training camp a month ago. "I guess the quirky nature of it is it keeps coming back," coach Jason Garrett said. "But he'll be fine."

Washington looking for stability at QB

ESPN's John Keim weighs in on the issues the Redskins have had in finding a steady quarterback and whether Kirk Cousins can fill that need moving forward. "There is a chance that the Redskins' starting quarterback beyond 2015 is still in college.”

RG III can't catch a break

Last season, Robert Griffin III struggled with his footwork. Now he's struggling with his health. His future in Washington is uncertain, but one thing is clear. "The RG III experiment is running out of time," John Clayton says.

Bills cut Fred Jackson

RB Fred Jackson was released by Buffalo today. His time in the Bills' backfield dates back to 2007, but his last 1,000-yard rushing season was 2009. At 34, he was the oldest running back in the NFL.
