Payton said Saints are practicing kickoffs that land at 1-yard line because they feel confident they can prevent returns from reaching 25-yard line. Thinks a lot of teams will.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said wide receiver Stephen Hill should be back practicing on Sunday. Hill was held out on Saturday as a precaution after landing awkwardly on the right knee he blew out last season. Rivera said there was some concern about rookie fullback Devon Johnson, whose back stiffened on him. He will be examined further.

The Redskins announced that they have added former general manager Bobby Beathard to their Ring of Fame. Beathard was the architect during the Redskins Super Bowl runs in the 1980s. He later served five years as San Diego's general manager, helping build a team that also reached the Super Bowl. Beathard, on the right,is the 49th member of the Ring of Fame.
